How is online teaching more effective?
How is online teaching more effective?
In public school schools one teacher is teaching 40 to 50 students in a class. It is impossible for the teacher to meet the learning needs of each student. Therefore, teachers adopt a middle path and teach according to the learning needs of an average student. Consequently, an above average student gets bored and below average student is unable to catch up with the rest of the class. The online school scenario is totally different.
The class size is small. Teacher-student ratio is less. Consequently, the teacher is able to observe each student and teach according to their learning needs. In Vikalp Online school, no time is spent on delivering lectures and rote learning. Teacher is supposed to guide students in doing activities, encourage them to reflect and do project work. Teacher engages in Socratic questioning and helps students discover answers during long question answer sessions.
Automation of Administrative Work
AI technologies can free teachers from administrative work. Teachers can focus on teaching-learning and social aspects of education. Administrative work can be taken care of by AI-driven technologies which can facilitate the management and delivery of education better than human. In Vikalp Online school process time-consuming activities like admissions, timetabling, attendance, homework monitoring and school inspection are done by AI.
Automation of Learning Content
AI can curate learning content. In Vikalp world class presentations used in the class are developed by AI. Study materials are developed according to the level of study and personalized need of each student in class. AI based tools monitor students’ attention in class. Aim is to help teachers identify where students are getting confused or not taking interest. This data-based analytics help teachers in teaching according to the needs of each student.
Automation of Evaluation
Marking assignments and tests takes a lot of time for teachers. We are working for the development of automatic writing evaluation (AWE). This development is still in process. We are yet to develop an error free AWE. Once it is developed it will make evaluation more efficient and objective. Manual marking is time consuming and leaves a scope of teacher biases to effect marking.
