3-Dimensional Shapes

CHALLENGESIN LEARNING CONCEPTS RELATED TO 3D SHAPES:

Student learn the formulas and try to find answer. But this led to several mistakes as students are not clear about how the formulas are derived. Students need to understand the interplay of length, breath and height to calculate the volume or compare one 3D shape with another.

WHY HOLLOW 3D SHAPES?

Geometric shape kit is translucent, hollow and has removable lid. Student can compare each shape, find their size and area. They can also find volume by filling with water or any dry material. Student can touch and feel the length, breath and height of each shapes. While doing activities students discover the formula to calculate the volume of each shape. Gradually students are able to relate one 3D shape with other. In one of the activities students compare volume of shapes by transferring water from one shape to another.
